Ben Dubin
Ben is a distinguished venture capitalist with extensive expertise in funding structures, startup development, and equity distribution. Since 1998, he has specialized in technology-driven venture investments in emerging-market startups. He has orchestrated nearly 100 company investments, adeptly managing all facets from deal sourcing and financial structuring to board management and strategic exits. Ben currently leads Health Gap Ventures, a venture capital fund that bridges health disparities through innovative healthcare products and services.
Before his current role, Ben co-founded Asset Management Ventures and served as its Managing Partner for 15 years. During his tenure, he steered the firm’s investments of over $100M at the convergence of information technology and life sciences. His strategic vision was instrumental in establishing and expanding the firm’s Health Science Technology sector, a testament to his foresight and leadership.
Ben held significant technical and leadership roles in the early stages of his career. He co-founded Los Altos Technologies, which focused on computer security and Full Source Software, commercializing open-source Unix software. His tenure at Sun Microsystems was marked by his significant contributions to multi-user platform development under Eric Schmidt and leadership in Enterprise Java technologies at Sun's Javasoft division. His pioneering work in these roles earned him a U.S. patent crucial to Sun Microsystems' technology portfolio. At Lockheed Martin, he developed advanced tools for designing and simulating custom semiconductors and circuit boards used in military surveillance satellites.
Ben's professional endeavors are not the only areas where he shines. His commitment to education and community service is equally inspiring. He has taught business entrepreneurship and venture capital funding at Foothill College for over two decades. Additionally, he teaches and presents at West Valley College, USF, and Stanford. His leadership positions in philanthropy, including serving as Treasurer on the board of the Foothill-De Anza College Foundation ($64M), a trustee of The Health Trust Foundation ($120M), and a board member of the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California, demonstrate his dedication to giving back to the community.
Ben earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
